Hi Elizabeth! Are you still looking for help navigating this change? I work with academic researchers in my current role as a PM and have heard this refrain a lot, especially at conferences like the Society for Behavioral Medicine's annual meeting. I've chatted with a few folks over the past couple of years who are looking to move out of the lab and into industry, and would be happy to do the same for you if you're still on this path! In the meantime, here are some really quick tips that helped me navigate my own pivot into product:

  • Get very honest with yourself about what you love about healthtech/biotech and whether it's a place you want to stay. The world is wide open when you pivot! If you know you want to stay in this space, the next step is to
  • Identify three to five places you admire a lot and would love to land, then start thinking about ways to network into those places.
  • While you're doing all that work, really immersing yourself in product content is a way to keep you motivated and even crystallize some of your own thinking around how product is done. Having a point of view on the art of product in interviews is great! I recommend any of the Book Apart books and Lenny's Podcast for starters.

Feel free to reach out for a session, if you'd like, too! Best of luck.
