How do I get started in product design when coming from an illustration background?

Hi! I’m currently a medical illustrator and I’m looking to switch into product design. While I’ve completed graduate work in medical design, and have worked in the field for three years, in the past few years I’ve been collaborating with artists, engineers, and designers to create surgical training modules in VR. I’ve seen a lot of the work done on software teams and would like to make the switch over into tech.

I’d love to chat with any product designers about what skills I need to learn and present, either in interviews or my portfolio, to make the career pivot. Thank you!
