How do I get into Product Management?

hey Justo! glad you're looking into product management. It can be super fun. you don't need to know how to code to be a PM. In fact most tech companies don't require it. There are a few ways to get into PM.

  • Transfer within your company - I'd say this is the easiest way (this was how I got in!)
  • Build out an app, product or community. Building out anything and scaling it from 0-1 shows product chops. You're thinking about your users and constantly evolving your product in order to make it more appealing and grow. It could be as simple as starting a slack community for your fav TV show and growing the community out to a couple 100 or 1000 people.
  • MBA - Comes with its pros and cons
  • Product certificates - great way to learn about the field but maybe not a great way to get a job. Most employers are looking for experience.
  • Volunteer to be a PM for nonprofits or other orgs (hack for LA is a great one)
